In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Evaluation (three)

What have you learnt from audience feedback?

Create your free online surveys with SurveyMonkey, the world's leading questionnaire tool.

i cant make many judgements from my survey results as i didnt get many people take the survey, but it gives me a good idea where to start.
It also helped me incorporate social networking sites into my coursework as i uploaded it onto facebook.

but most of the people who took it were in the age range 17 - 19

they were mainly males

most of them watch drama films

and they all watch them at least once a month, then the most watch them twice a month

they all agree that the trailer fits into the drama genre

they all said they would want to see the film from watching the trailer

improvements = better quality sound and voiceovers

everyone thought my ancillary tasks work well with the trailer

mag improvements = more info and prizes/puzzles

poster improvements = more emotion in the picture

Analysis of similar product using audience theories!

Twilight Eclipse, I chose this as a similar product because both Edward and Jacob are fighting for the love of Bella, and in my film trailer there are 2 boys fighting over a girl.

There are 4 audience theories: Adorno's hypodermic needle model, Blumer and Katz gratifications model, Halls encoding and decoding, and Morleys reception theory.

Adorno says that the audience is passive and the media injects the meaning. It suggests that everyone interprets media in the same way. This theory isnt a very theory, it doesnt take into consideration that everyone is different and looks at thing in different ways.
The message that is being injected into the audience from Twilight Eclipse is that Jacob loves Bella as much as Edward loves her, they will both fight for her and protect for harm.

Bulmer and Katz say that every person in the audience has 4 needs to interpret media, they are diversion, personal relationship, personal identity and surveillance.
Diversion is used as an escape, the audience will watch Eclipse and be able to get away from their routine and problems, eclipse has a popular storyline of having a love triangle so people can be diverted from their lives into the dilemma of the film.
Personal relationship is when the audience makes relationships with the characters in the film and others who watch the film who they can discuss it with. With Eclipse the audiences makes a relationship with Bella, they feel like they can be her and try and make the choice of Edward or Jacob for her. The relationship with others who watch the film are made because people will choose either Jacob or Edward so there will be stronger relationships with the people who choose the same as you as you feel you can relate to them more.
Personal identity is when you can compare you're own life experiences with those in the film. In eclipse its hard to make a direct comparison due to the fact its supernatural, but there is the love triangle which can be related to, the audience may have been involved in a experience with 2 people fighting for them and not knowing who to chose, they can be relate themselves to Bella.
Surveillance is

Hall says that the directors have to decode a message into a film and then the audience encodes it in a preferred reading. There are 3 different ways of encoding, dominant (where the audience agrees completely with the directors message), oppositional (where the audience completely disagrees with the message) and negotiated (where they partly agree and partly disagree with the message).
In Eclipse the message that the director is trying to get across is that its a supernatural film but a love story between Bella, Edward and Jacob. Also is about a life and death situation and a hard choice has to be made.
The response is mainly dominant when looking at a female audience, this is because the film is aimed at teenage girls, therefore they are going to relate to it most easily. The response is mainly oppositional or negotiated with a male audience because the film isnt directed towards men.

Morley says that the audience interprets media in their own way. They interpret the meaning by using past life experiences and cultural background.
For Eclipse if you were an audience in America you will interpret the film differently to an audience in India. This is because each audience will have a different culture and things will be taught differently, therefore their life experiences will be different. So the meaning of Eclipse will be different to each audience.
